Blog #1 : The Personal Computer is Important to Today's Society -

    by Cuauhtemoc Rodriguez Jr.

The Personal Computer, or PC, is a valuable asset and piece of technology in today’s society that has helped connect people around the world from the comfort of their home and has digitized certain jobs and work that were previously only done in person. They allow us to even have digital communication and connect us to online databases through the Internet, which we use on a daily basis to pay bills, book flights, do college assignments, respond to, and check our emails, google national news, or just to look up cooking recipes online. Ever since laptops began outselling desktops in 2008 as the online slideshow for PC’s says, it has become more and more common to see people at work and school carrying laptops around and using them on a daily basis. Amidst the current COVID-19 pandemic, the personal computer has become even more important as we were forced to do online schooling from our PC’s and webcams at home rather than attending classes in person. I personally use my gaming PC to play video games and do my college work. They simply make life easier and help us finish tasks much faster. But they also might have positive benefits to society’s health. As the online slideshow says from Chapter 8’s Slideshow on Personal Computers, tech savvy seniors are using PCs/Tech like fitness trackers and home health diagnostics to monitor their health. This could improve the quality of life and thus help senior citizens live longer.

  1. I am interested in knowing if the image used above is your own. It never fails to intrigue me in the pride one takes in adding too and creating grand and immense entertainment centers. As I am aware that the visual display of it is only the first layer, the additives 'gamers' obsess over have massive effects in the competiing market. As some features mirror each other, the controversy and debate in the "better" system or device is at the opinion of the consumer, which is then influenced amongst others. With your listings of the uses and provision of PCs, these all can be deemed as influences of mandating one, a contribution in explaining the depths of our technological ran society. The unavoidable need for this asset is affirmed in your discussion and it is relieving to know that there are some configured physical benefits from them (seniors tracking physical fitness), rather than the decrease of physical notions (like socialization) that consumption of PCs and technology in general is at fault for.

  3. Cuauhtemoc, This is a very interesting blog. The Personal Computer is one of the most valuable technological advances that has accelerated digital communication. Having a PC is very common today for people to take care of much of their business including paying bills, making travel plans, and completing educational goals in an online or more traditional manner. You are definitely on the mark when you discuss how the pandemic fostered more schools to place their curriculums online, thus requiring students to have a PC in order to access course materials. The webcam on the PC is also an important feature because teachers could continue to monitor their students outside of the classroom. The advantages of the PC are unlimited. I appreciate your comments on the health benefits. Utilizing a PC could also support senior citizens to keep their brains active, which certainly provides a better quality of life. Great post!
